Advertorial Travel Writing
On a study abroad trip to Italy, I took a travel writing class in which I created multiple pieces documenting my experiences and showcasing various destinations around Europe. The class was designed with a focus on the expectations of magazine and travel blogs in matters of content, style, and media. The final project was to create a video montage of our travels and adventures.
Piazza Cavour: An authentic Italian experience
I sip on my frothy cappuccino outside Café Miani on a shady street of Piazza Cavour, feeling the warmth of the early morning sun creep through the trees above my table. Looking across the busy street, I smile at Camillo, now green with age, watching proudly from his granite and marble pedestal as pedestrians, shopkeepers, businessmen alike walk briskly on their morning commute. The screech of lattes and scent of coffee filled my nose, as sleepy Italians chatted amongst themselves and waited patiently in line before ordering their morning coffees. Thinking I had I wandered in the wrong door, I backtracked and double-checked the sign perched above the threshold. I saw the familiar arches and the scripted McCafe lettering, and realized that somehow, this was in fact a McDonald’s…
Travel Writing Adventure Reel
Our final assignment in travel writing was to create a 30 second or less reel of our adventures. I was able to explore film techniques, styles, and editing. This reel was designed to showcase personality, past experiences, and bring life to my written pieces.
